Description
A traditional Czech Christmas bread called vánočka, sweet and braided, perfect for festive occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 100g sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 250ml warm milk
- 2 eggs
- 100g butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 50g raisins
- 50g almonds, chopped
- 1 egg yolk for brushing
Instructions
- Mix yeast with warm milk and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Combine flour, sugar, salt, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla in a bowl.
- Add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
- Fold in raisins and almonds.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Divide dough into 6 parts, roll into ropes, and braid.
- Place on a baking sheet, brush with egg yolk.
- Bake at 180°C for 30-35 minutes.
Notes
- Let dough rise in a warm place.
- Adjust sugar to taste.
- Store in an airtight container.
