Description
Makowiec is a traditional Polish poppy seed roll, often served during holidays and special occasions. It features a sweet yeast dough filled with a rich poppy seed mixture.
Ingredients

- 500g all-purpose flour
- 50g sugar
- 1 packet (7g) dry yeast
- 250ml warm milk
- 1 egg
- 100g butter, melted
- 300g ground poppy seeds
- 150g honey
- 50g raisins
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg yolk for brushing
Instructions
- Mix flour, sugar, and yeast in a bowl.
- Add warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Knead until smooth.
- Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- Combine poppy seeds, honey, raisins, and vanilla for the filling.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle.
- Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Place on a baking sheet, seam side down.
- Brush with egg yolk.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35-40 minutes.
Notes
- Let the roll cool before slicing.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- For a richer taste, add chopped nuts to the filling.
