Description

Töltött káposzta is a traditional Hungarian dish made with cabbage leaves stuffed with a flavorful meat and rice filling, simmered in a savory tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 500g ground pork
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Boil the cabbage until leaves soften. Remove leaves carefully.
  2. Mix ground pork, rice, onion, garlic, egg, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Place a spoonful of filling on each cabbage leaf and roll tightly.
  4. Heat oil in a pot, add tomato paste and water or broth.
  5. Place stuffed cabbage rolls in the pot, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
  6. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use sour cabbage for a tangier taste.
  • Add a pinch of sugar to balance the tomato sauce.
  • Serve with sour cream on top.
