Instructions

  2. Slice the onion into thin rings.
  3. Mix vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Layer herring and onion in a jar.
  5. Add bay leaves and allspice.
  6. Pour the vinegar mixture over the herring.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours before serving.
