Irresistible Śledź Po Żydowsku – 24-Hour Magic Marinade

Description

A traditional Jewish-style herring dish, marinated with onions and spices.


Ingredients

  • 500g herring fillets
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Rinse the herring fillets and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Layer the herring and sliced onions in a glass jar.
  3. In a saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar, peppercorns, and bay leaves. Bring to a boil.
  4. Pour the hot marinade over the herring and onions.
  5. Seal the jar and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Serve chilled with rye bread or boiled potatoes.
