Description

Mini croque monsieur apero is a delicious French-inspired appetizer featuring small toasted sandwiches with ham and cheese.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of white bread
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup béchamel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Spread Dijon mustard on one side of each bread slice.
  3. Layer ham and Gruyère cheese on half the slices, then top with the remaining slices.
  4. Butter the outer sides of each sandwich.
  5. Heat a pan over medium heat and toast the sandwiches until golden on both sides.
  6. Transfer to a baking sheet, top with béchamel sauce and extra cheese.
  7. Bake for 5-7 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  8. Cut into small squares and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh bread for the best texture.
  • Substitute Gruyère with Emmental if preferred.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste.
