Description

A hearty Hungarian dish made with lentils, vegetables, and spices.


Ingredients

  • 500g lentils
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 liter water or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Rinse the lentils under cold water.
  2. Heat oil in a pot and sauté the onion until translucent.
  3. Add the carrots and garlic, cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the paprika, lentils, bay leaf, and water or broth.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes until lentils are tender.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can add potatoes or other vegetables if desired.
  • For a richer flavor, use smoked paprika.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
