Description

Kapusta z Grochem is a traditional Polish dish combining cabbage and peas for a hearty, flavorful meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage, chopped
  • 1 cup dried peas, soaked overnight
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 cups water or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Drain soaked peas and rinse.
  2. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
  3. Add chopped cabbage and cook until slightly wilted.
  4. Stir in peas, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
  5. Pour in water or broth, bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 45-50 minutes until peas are tender.
  7. Remove bay leaf before serving.

Notes

  • Soak peas overnight to reduce cooking time.
  • Add smoked sausage or bacon for extra flavor if desired.
  • Serve with rye bread.
