Description
Kapusta Wigilijna is a traditional Polish Christmas Eve dish made with sauerkraut and mushrooms.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g sauerkraut
- 200g dried mushrooms
- 1 onion
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 bay leaf
- 5 allspice berries
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Soak dried mushrooms in warm water for 30 minutes.
- Chop onion and sauté in oil until translucent.
- Add drained sauerkraut to the pan.
- Drain mushrooms, chop them, and add to the pan.
- Add bay leaf and allspice berries.
- Simmer on low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt and pepper before serving.
Notes
- Traditionally served with boiled potatoes.
- Can be prepared a day ahead for better flavor.
