35-Minute Fánk Recipe: Irresistibly Fluffy Hungarian Donuts

Description

Fánk is a traditional Hungarian deep-fried doughnut, often coated in sugar or filled with jam. It’s a popular dessert or snack.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 250ml warm milk
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 50g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar or jam for coating/filling

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Add warm milk, egg yolks, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Knead into a smooth dough.
  3. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough to 1cm thickness and cut into rounds with a glass or cutter.
  5. Let the rounds rest for 15 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 180°C. Fry the doughnuts until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Drain on paper towels. Coat in powdered sugar or fill with jam.

Notes

  • Use a thermometer to check oil temperature.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan while frying.
  • Adjust sugar to taste.
