Description

A simple recipe for preparing śledzie, a traditional Polish dish made with pickled herring.


Ingredients

  • 4 pickled herring fillets
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • Fresh dill for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the herring fillets under cold water and pat dry.
  2. Slice the onion thinly and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix sour cream, mustard, sugar, and vinegar.
  4. Layer the herring fillets and onions in a dish.
  5. Pour the sour cream mixture over the herring.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  7. Garnish with fresh dill before serving.

Notes

  • You can add apple slices for extra sweetness.
  • Serve with boiled potatoes or dark rye bread.
