Description

Crispy breaded tofu is a delicious and easy-to-make dish. It’s perfect as a snack, appetizer, or main course. The tofu is coated in a flavorful breading and fried until golden and crunchy.


Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan option)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Drain and press the tofu to remove excess water. Cut into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  2. Mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg and water.
  4. Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  5. Coat each tofu slice in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg wash, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the breaded tofu until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-coat the tofu by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes if you prefer a healthier option.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
